Japan’s ruling party votes for a new leader later Friday, with the winner set to replace the outgoing Fumio Kishida as prime minister. It’s been one of the most open races in the conservative party’s history, with a record nine candidates in the running. Shery Ahn reports.

Although Ms. Takai was the most popular candidate, Mr. Ishiba was selected as Prime Minister by a narrow margin of votes. Many citizens are disheartened by this outcome. However, We can only hope that this is preferable to having Mr. Koizumi as Prime Minister.
If the new prime minister can find a way to keep Japanese productivity while getting people to work less hours, I think he would single-handedly resuscitate Japan
