Japan’s next prime minister keen to boost the military | DW News

Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party has selected its new leader, who is also set to become the country’s next prime minister. The former defense minister Shigeru Ishiba will replace current leader, Fumio Kishida, who suffered a series of financial and political scandals. Ishiba has pushed for a boost in military spending and has also called for the creation of an Asian version of NATO. The former defense minister argues that Japan’s military should be able to respond firmly if territorial airspace or waters are breached.

  1. as a south korean… don't want to be involved in silly japanese senkaku island dispute against china. smart japanese… want to defend their land using korean bloods.

  2. This alliance is likely to fail as East Asia are extremely divided and separated, every country in East Asia tends to hate each other for either land dispute, historical reason, or political reason. I don’t think this alliance will come to effect, it will likely to be an alliance to be forgotten in the future because it’s completely useless. South Korea will not join it because of the land dispute in Dokdo Island, joining it would literally mean Korea will need to admit Dokdo is part of Japanese territory. I don’t think Taiwan will likely join either because of its land dispute with Japan and China. Unless China invade Taiwan the alliance could come to effect, but for now, it is a completely useless alliance

  3. No need for the Philippines to join NATO. No sane country would want to colonize the Philippines and assume the obligation to feed an impoverished nation with 100 million citizens. Spain did not even profit from the Philippines and the Philippines was heavily subsidized by the Viceroyal of Mexico. It was just a Spanish port for Spain's Asian affairs.

  4. 日米同盟があるからたとえどのアジアの国と同盟を結んでもあんまり利益ないんよな、石破はこう見えて左翼だから多分安定的な政権にはならないし

  5. It's interesting to see comments supporting Japan's remilitarisation attempt as if the Japanese imperialists didn't start the WW2 and bought devastating loss of lives in Asia and from other parts of the world. I doubt if our humans are able to learn lessons through history.

  6. In honest truth and disclosure science in economics and natural science have a fact basis. Historical knowledge and legal record in copyright is necessary and involved by capital markets for insurance underwriting. This concern in part and brief has been presented to Tokyo University funded programs for human resouce management in engineering and Waseda University comparative law Institute. 7. これでいいのだ!岸田元総理みたいな、いるのかいないのかわからない奴よりも、問題発言をたくさんして、ロシア,中国,北朝鮮を震えあがらせる日本が理想的!
