China, Japan, South Korea meet in Kuala Lumpur likely to discuss US tariffs, countermeasures

China, Japan, and South Korea are stepping up talks after the US slapped sweeping tariffs on imports, with China hit hardest at 34 per cent, Japan at 24 per cent, and South Korea facing 25 per cent.

The three economic powerhouses just held their second trilateral meeting in eight days, reflecting growing urgency as the tariffs ripple through global markets with over US$10 trillion reportedly wiped out.

At the talks, held on the sidelines of an ASEAN finance summit, the nations raised concerns about the impact on trade, business confidence, and diplomacy.

They reaffirmed their commitment to economic cooperation and hinted at accelerating a long-discussed trilateral free trade agreement.
