Vietnam is ascendant! By nearly every metric the country is outperforming its Southeast Asia neighbors, particularly as companies aim to shift manufacturing away from China due to global economic concerns. Because of this, the country has a growing middle class, educated population, and prominence on the world stage. In fact, in many ways, Vietnam could outpace Japan over the next few decades. But this doesn’t mean Vietnam is without its own challenges.
In this video, we’ll cover the physical geography of Vietnam, the history of the country and how it became the Vietnam we know today, and why Vietnam is poised to become the Southeast Asia power that has never truly existed, perhaps even rivaling Japan in the near future.

Because european are lazy ,simple as that
Love the content and deep dive, but similar to a lot of other commenters, the comparison to Japan is not exactly apples to apples.
I love Vietnam and it has a lot of great things going for it in recent years – one of the fastest growing economies in the world, a young and relatively educated population/labour force, etc etc.
A more suitable comparison for Vietnam would be catching up to a more developed ASEAN country like Thailand or even Malaysia.
I just arrived in Vietnam
Việt nam sẽ là 1 quốc gia top đầu châu á
The hated country
Phuqoc is the past lands of Cambodia
And now with 46% tariffs of Trump screw everything!
Only gullible people will believe this, and many people on this planet are… Vietnam is going downhill economically, businesses are shutting down and a lot of people are unemployed, you have to live there to know! It’s a good place to have food drinks and girls that’s about it!
vietnamese here, i do acknowledge that we might be somewhat decent, but we're still developing, comparing us to japan is kinda not fair
Amazing food, nice people, beautiful cities!! Love you Vietnam, from your ASEAN sister TH❤VN
Vietnam is great
Tôi là người Việt Nam, và nếu bạn để hình ảnh bản đồ nước tôi thì hãy thêm hai quần đảo Hoàng Sa và Trường Sa vào nhé. Cảm ơn❤
As a Vietnamese, I think we still have a long way to go to be like Japan. We still trying to catch up with Thailand and Singapore in the region here.
Personally, I really admire Thailand, they r the only country that did not fall for colonialism in the region. Many of their King generation have great policies and care for his people.
Thank you for introducing Vietnam to the world. However, it will only be completed if you show the Paracel and Spratly Islands (Hoang Sa & Truong Sa) in Vietnamese map.
Japan is the dead island. No one want to live in Japan. Japan is too cold, too salty, can't grow fruits and vegetables, can't grow farms, can't grow live stocks. That is why Japan can only eat seaweeds and seafood and sushi. Sushi is not tasty at all because Japan don't have vegetables so they have to eat seaweeds. And one day sea level rise and seawater engulf the entire Japan island and Japan disappear.
Vietnam is the best place in the world, not too hot, not cold, plenty of foods such as tons of kinds of delicious vegetables, tons of live stocks and animals , tons of seafoods provided by the nature. That was why the hungry Japan, hungry French, hungry China invaded Vietnam for foods.
Hey two weeks I was at the Japan Narita International airport cuz it was a Layover in the transition to the next stop. The Japanese security woman came and asked me for my ID. What the hell. I already went through the security check and I was waiting for boarding. That old Japanese security woman wanted to make herself important or what. She thinks I tried to live in Japan illigally or what. My country Vietnam is the best place on Earth to live in. I don't want to live in the Japan deadland. I wanted to spit my saliva on her face. Japan has no foods that is why that old Japanese security woman was underfed that is why she is too short only 3 feet tall. 🤣🤣🤣
Tệ nạn tham nhũng lãng phí quan liêu cũng như những quyết sách sai lầm, thiếu trong dụng người tài cản trở bước tiến của VN.
Great Video, best one yet.
Bro is milking Vietnam Communist bot😂
Lol vietnam vs japan? 1000 years later can vietnam catch up japan now??
Xin Chào Geoff! I'm an American living in Vietnam since 2012. Thanks for the video. The fact that Americans are warmly welcomed across Vietnam speaks volumes about the Vietnamese people and their positive attitude and spirit. It's possibly the only country where I have never experienced any anti-Americanism, which when one considers the history, is really saying something. I've been to most of SE Asia and East Asia including Japan, S. Korea, China PRC, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia and India (yes, South Asia but just saying) and of all those places Vietnam is far and away the best one for me. If you're in Vietnam currently, I could certainly recommend a few places to see 🙂 Cheers!
Vietnam is still under CCP
controls
It may be similar to Chinese economic mode
Comparing to Japan is far from the truth
Even Taiwan cannot precede Japan
I think Vietnam is starting to boom but there is still many unknown in his future
Are you dreaming? Vietnamese men spoiled to the point they are drunk almost every day. How can you build a country with drunk men.
