Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party will pick a new leader on Friday (Sep 27). A record nine candidates are in the race to replace Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. They include Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi, who is making a fresh bid to become Japan’s first female prime minister.

  1. You can count on the Japanese establishment to choose the most incompetent bland candidate that will be least threatening to the status quo. Japanese stagnation can only be blamed by the stagnation and mediocrity found in its leadership.
