BRICS grows, adding 13 new ‘partner countries’ at historic summit in Russia

BRICS held a summit in Kazan, Russia in October 2024, where 13 new “partner nations” were accepted. This followed the 2023 meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, where several members were invited to join. Ben Norton analyzes the historic events, and shows how the Global South is building a more multipolar world.

BRICS MEMBERSHIP (9 members + 13 partner countries)

  1. We don't need your US dollar
We don't need your SWIFT control
All your sanctions don't impress us
Hey! US! Leave the world alone!
All in all you'll just see more BRICS in the wall.

All in all you'll just see more BRICS in the wall.

  2. Argentina blew it, and as usual their people will suffer for stupid decisions made by their leaders. Anyway, Milei and Mileikowsky seem to be a match made in Hell, where they belong.

  3. Am happy about this, it's good for the world. However the organization also shows it's hypocrisy by conveniently avoiding the topic of Russia and Ukraine, which is very disappointing. Cause if they were to convince Russia to stop the war, it would go a long way in showing the world their invaluable influence and good intentions. But at this point it's just like replacing one bully for another 😢

  4. I work in the financial industry, and the experts think this is still a joke and that nothing will ever replace or be stronger than the dollar. Most of the hype around this is a crypto currency as per usual lies.

  5. The thing that unites BRICS: The knowledge that under the current order, if any of these global south leaders work for the benefit of their own people, are successful, and refuse to toe the western line, they immediately face the risk of a colour revolution regime change (or downright invasion). China and Russia are the only 2 powers that have defied this rule and come out on top. This is why BRICS is so attractive. It gives people hope.

  6. I agree that US and other colonial powers need to be checked. Not sure I trust the two other bullies here who lead BRICS, though. It’s laughable that Russia and China are championing a more empowered global south when one just invaded Ukraine and another completely disregards international law and continues to harass countries near the South China Sea—notably Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Philippines—> https://youtu.be/Fi-wWtKDCfw?si=WVaReagE18JdXgxo

  7. The rest of the world is waking up to the fact that the entire universe does not revolve around the USA, it was all an illusion. And they're finally starting to act accordingly.

They have finally realized there is nothing to stop them from trading among themselves without involving the schoolyard bully who uses the dollar to bludgeon everybody into submission while stealing their lunch money in the process.

  8. "the initative to create new investment platform to […] boost the investment flow into the countries of BRICS"
Investment from where? Surely not the West?
India desperately wants foreign investment, China's entire economic model is build around continuous foreign investment flow. So it's about investment from the West.
I'm a bit critical of this platform that seems to oppose the West AND try to get western nations to inject more money into BRICS+ countries to build factories. It's not really an alternative to the West if their overall plan for development is courting the West for more economic stimuli. It still seems to be firmly in the West's shadow
