US President Donald Trump has announced a new round of steep tariffs for its trading partners throughout the world. Japan will face a “reciprocal tariff” of 24 percent, according to his announcement. As for other major economies, China will be hit with 34 percent, India 26 percent, and the European Union 20 percent. Trump said a minimum baseline levy of 10 percent will be imposed on imports from all countries starting April 5, and the reciprocal tariffs for major trading partners with the largest trade imbalances will be set even higher. A White House official said the latter tariffs will take effect April 9.
