Every spring, dozens of Japanese geiko performers and their maiko apprentices come together in Kyoto’s Gion district to take part in an ancient event called the Miyako Odori – a stage-top dance that celebrates the seasonal changes across some of the city’s most famous sites. Here, they conduct a final rehearsal in preparation for a month of daily performances through April.
