China hits back at Trump with 84% tariffs on US as trade war intensifies | BBC News
China has slapped retaliatory tariffs of 84% on all US imports, deepening a trade war between Beijing and Washington.
It comes as President Donald Trump had earlier put a 104% tariff on Chinese goods – but later raised this to 125%, citing a “lack of respect” from China.
Trump has paused higher tariffs on other countries, though a “universal 10%” levy will be in place.
Financial markets in Asia jumped following news of the reprieve, with one expert saying the region is ‘breathing a massive sigh of relief’.

Trump says a lack of respect saying China are retaliatory to his obscene tarrifs when that is exactly what he is claiming he is doing, raising tarrifs against alleged and unconfirmed higher tarrifs from other countries.

Had everyone shrugged their shoulders and said, tax your businesses and citizens as high as you like, then he would have suffered huge pushback from the big US businesses. Tarrifs so high would threaten their business and hit the US tax payers within days/weeks. He soon would have backed down, as he has to some degree. Its not like he could pick and chose countries for goods as they all had high tarrifs imposed and they typically produce different products, plus supply lines, contractual agreements and so on are already in place. But no, the leaders did not think it through and now they are all on the knees to Trump, instead fo the other way around. USA are not about to start manufacturing tomorrow. You have to build factories, source and mine materials, employ and train people, devekop technology, supply lines and so on. It takes years, it does not happen overnight.
I think this reflects all situations now 😅 why its sucks to be born as donald trump ???

On the positive note, the increase in production costs will discourage excessive and cheap mass production. Our global society, having grown used to overconsumption of low-cost goods, will shift toward more mindful consumption habits, ultimately reducing waste, limiting pollution, and hopefully encouraging sustainable, higher-quality, and more efficient manufacturing practices.

Well, US products lose completely when it comes to quality or price comparing to others and so senile old Trump comes with tariffs because that’s all his idiot head can think of.
How about focusing or making US products great or good value so someone will actually buy them. Forcing people buy US products by applying tariffs on others just prove incapability of Trump solving problems.
Nobody fights a fight when they don’t have a plan, china has a plan, and I hope the us does too, maybe in a stroke of luck, both sides will negotiate and find middle ground. But I might be hoping for too much here 😅

Trump knows exactly what he is doing – he and his family are buying these stocks at a very low price. Trump is not as rich as he claims, but he will be very rich before he gets out of office.
Trump needs money. He needs hundreds of billions of dollars. To help him subsidize the chip industry. Otherwise, there will be no way to realize its dream of becoming a manufacturing power. Now he wants countries all over the world to pay tribute and money to help him fulfill his great dream. So disgusting.
Trump should leave China alone.
Not American but think of the American Manufacturers who went bankrupt because of Chinese competition. Think of the workers who lost their jobs because their Company has to shut down. For decades, China dominated the Manufacturing Industry by having one of the cheapest labour cost and materials.
This move by Trump is not about waging Tariff War with the world but rather a move to impower Americans in their own soil.
